FINALLY...

Have you ever heard of the a Happiness Quotient?

To close out this 1st month of 2019, Monday I asked; what does a "Me Day" look like for you? After the last couple weeks of talking about Self-Love to Self-Discovery, and starting the discussion on taking a hard look at ourselves I thought I should write about the flip side.

Really what we seek is the Virtue of Joy it goes deeper than the emotion of Happiness but...

For now I mentioned a Happiness Quotient above so let's explore that. I came across this in my reading a number of years ago and it stuck with me in a powerful way. It sounds mathematical and it is like any other "quotient" it is rooted in plugging something in one side of the equation and getting something out on the other. Or simply to "quantify" our happiness if we would dare to try.

The author whom I would have to go back and look up, was a female professor at Harvard I believe. I think they actually started a "school" of happiness where they do research on it. This is actually becoming more common - even in the current city I reside at the University there is a professor who also has dedicated much time to educating on/researching the topic. So the author in this case was suggesting that perhaps we look at input vs. output when it comes to where we spend our time, resources, energy, etc. in hopes of finding or experiencing happiness.

A simple breakdown how I understood it looks like this...

Time, Resources, Energy, etc. in + Value of Result = HQ (Happiness Quotient)

So to give an example:

Going on a Vacation (High Cost) + Time Experienced (Often Short) = Low HQ

vs.

Buying something you love i.e. Flowers for home (Low Cost) + Life of Flowers (Long) = High HQ

So in this scenario she is suggesting that sure yes we all like to vacation and perhaps need that at times. But because they tend to be over quickly that, sometimes smaller things/investments can have a lasting deeper effect on a daily basis, for less cost, depending on what brings us Joy!

Since reading that article I have found it super intriguing and have been trying to practice it more in my life and I dare to say she's probably right. Now this Blog is not about proving any argument over another. All I do is propose things to consider that will hopefully make us better in our relationships.

Therefore, I am challenging us today to continue Self-Discovery and ask ourselves; what things/experiences really bring me Joy that has lasting effects? Once we figure this out and can provide most of that for ourselves, then we are happier people.

Ultimately, it is NOT the responsibility of others to make us happy it is ours - others should only be adding to what is already there! I would love to hear your thoughts on this Happiness Quotient idea or anything else this post stirs up in your.

As always thank you for reading, commenting & sharing.

See you next week - Feb. 1st marks the 10 day countdown to my Book launch stay tuned!!

Sincerely,

KK.
